1001 Voices: An Anthem for a New America

September 14, 2107 @ CUNY School of Law Foundation

The window installation, 1001 Voices: An Anthem for a New America, designed for CUNY Law School in 2017, celebrates its mission “law in the service of human needs” and stories of people throughout Queens, paying homage to Emma Lazarus’ sonnet The New Colossus on the Statue of Liberty. The Sorensen Center’s recently launched Justice Through Art initiative is a collaboration between CUNY Law’s community and artists to bring new perspectives and depth to social justice issues.

Funding Priorities

French poet and novelist Anatole France (1844-1924) wrote, “To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.”

The students at CUNY School of Law embody that sentiment. They come to us with passion and dreams about how they can bring social change and social justice.

You can help them fulfill those passions and to make those ideas real by giving in these ways.

Annual Fund

Tuition and state support don’t cover all of the costs of graduating outstanding public interest and public service attorneys and providing access to the legal profession for underserved groups. We rely on unrestricted gifts to the annual fund to provide us with a margin of excellence, especially for summer fellowship opportunities, real-life settings that reinforce and refine skills taught in the classroom.

Making a gift is easy. You may make a one-time contribution or create a schedule for monthly giving.

Justice Roundtable

The Justice Roundtable is a dedicated group of individuals whose passion for social justice leads them to contribute between $1,200 and $10,000 annually to support CUNY. Monthly giving options are available for donors’ convenience. Members of the Roundtable may make their gift unrestricted or opt to support one of our centers or clinics.

Fellowships & Scholarships

Direct support of our students – through summer fellowship opportunities or scholarships – is the lifeblood of CUNY School of Law. Most of our students come from modest means and have few financial resources to help them realize their dreams.

Pooled gifts to the Alumni Justice Fellowship Fund provides stipends for summer fellowship opportunities. Donors may also underwrite single fellowships with gifts of $3,000 or more.

You may establish a permanently endowed, named fellowship or scholarship fund with a gift of $75,000 or more (payable over five years if you choose). A portion of the annual earnings will be used to fund summer fellowships or scholarships. You may even designate a particular area of interest (e.g., immigration, women’s and children’s rights, criminal defense) for your endowed fellowship.

To explore these options, contact our development team at 718-340-4483.

Centers, Clinics, & Special Projects

Students come to study at CUNY School of Law because we have one of the top 10 best clinical programs in the country. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has praised our innovative, integrated pedagogy that blends clinical skills with doctrinal education throughout the three years of study.

You may direct your support to any one of our centers or clinics.
