Born and raised in Sao Paolo, Brazil, Ana L. Oliveira has devoted over 25 years in public health addressing communities in need. She served as the Executive Director of the Gay Men’s Health Crisis before joining the New York Women’s Foundation in 2006.
Under her leadership, the New York Women’s Foundation has become the top women’s foundation in the U.S., investing in bold, community-led organizations and leaders striving for economic security, safety, and health. It leverages strategic partnerships to accelerate change for women, families, and gender-fluid individuals in New York City with the highest levels of poverty, violence, unemployment, and related social, educational, and economic disparities. She serves as a Commissioner of the New York City Commission on Human Rights and is a member of the Independent Commission on New York City Criminal Justice and Incarceration Reform that is working towards closing the jail complex on Rikers Island.

CUNY School of Law is the #1 public interest law school in the U.S. As the only publicly funded law school in New York City, CUNY School of Law increases access to excellent legal training, while building diversity in the legal profession. CUNY Law transforms the practice of law, so that it includes those it has excluded, marginalized, and oppressed. The world needs to see the full range of human experience reflected and represented in the law; only then can we have a system of justice for everyone.
